The return is compiled by hand, from systems that disagree.
Enrolment from one register, attendance from another, staff from a folder. Somebody reconciles them over a fortnight of evenings, submits a number, and then cannot explain in November where that number came from.

Each of these is built and working today. Where something is not, the questions below say so plainly.
Generated, not compiled
The figures come from the records you have been keeping all year. If they are wrong, they were wrong in the records — which is a much better problem to have.

The questions worth asking a vendor
Including the ones where our answer is no. A school that buys on a promise and finds a gap does not renew.
- Does it submit the return to UDISE+ for us?
- No. It produces the figures and the file; a human at your school reviews and submits. An automated submission of a statutory return without a person reading it is not something we are willing to build.
- What if our historical data is not in the system?
- Then the return covers the period it has. We do not invent a figure to fill a column, and neither should any system you buy.
