Where AI helps, and where it must not
The AI writes and explains. It does not decide what your child knows.
Anything that must be correct, repeatable and explainable to a parent runs as an algorithm, not a model. The AI drafts explanations and questions — and a human reviews them before a child ever sees them.
“AI-powered” is doing a lot of work on most edtech homepages.
A model that guesses a child's mastery is a model that will one day tell a parent their child is weak at fractions on the strength of four questions and a bad afternoon. That is not a technical problem — it is a thing you cannot explain to a family, which means it should not decide anything.
What Edustians does about it
Each of these is built and working today. Where something is not, the questions below say so plainly.
Mastery is statistics, not a model
What a child has and has not understood is computed by an explainable algorithm, so a teacher can say why. No published system of any size does this with a deep model, and neither do we.
Every generated item is reviewed by a person
Explanations and practice questions are drafted offline, checked by a human, and only then published. Nothing reaches a learner unreviewed.
A child is never labelled
There is no column anywhere in this system that marks a child as weak. There are topics that need more practice. The distinction is the whole design.
Safety before helpfulness
A learner in distress meets a fixed, tested response and a named human contact — not a model improvising.
The questions worth asking a vendor
Including the ones where our answer is no. A school that buys on a promise and finds a gap does not renew.

- No. Marks are entered by teachers and verified by a second teacher.

- Can we turn the AI off?
- Yes. The school controls whether the tutor is available at all, and to which classes.
